What a Class 4 MOT covers
Cars and small vans
Class 4 covers most everyday vehicles — cars, small vans and the sort of thing sitting on most Weston driveways. If your vehicle is over three years old, it needs an MOT every year by law. We do that test right here in the workshop.
The test is a safety and roadworthiness check to a set DVSA standard. We're not looking to catch you out — we're checking the things that keep you and everyone else safe on the road. In plain terms, we go over:
- Brakes Pads, discs, handbrake and how well it all pulls up.
- Tyres & wheels Tread depth, condition and that nothing's worn beyond the limit.
- Lights Headlamps, indicators, brake lights, number plate lights — all working and aimed right.
- Steering & suspension No worrying knocks, play or leaks.
- Exhaust & emissions What's coming out the back, and that the exhaust is sound.
- Bodywork & structure No dangerous corrosion or sharp edges.
- Seatbelts & horn The everyday safety bits that are easy to forget.
- Wipers, washers & view That you can actually see where you're going.
MOT Station
Approved and inspected We're a DVSA-approved Class 4 test station and we're inspected regularly by the DVSA to keep that approval. Look for the blue MOT triangle on our frontage — it means the test is done properly, on site, to the national standard.

What happens on a fail
If your vehicle doesn't pass, we won't dress it up. We'll show you what's failed and why it matters, and we'll give you a fair, up-front quote to put it right. We only repair what genuinely needs doing to make the car safe and legal — nothing we wouldn't do on our own vehicles.
The retest
Because we test and repair under the same roof, we can usually sort the failed items and get you retested without you having to run around. Get the work done with us within the DVSA's retest window and the retest is free or reduced — ask Richard or Jamie when you drop it in and they'll explain exactly how it works for your car.
A tip worth knowing: you can put your car in for its MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it's due and keep the same renewal date. Ring us in good time and we'll find you a slot this week — most people don't need to leave it to the last minute.
